Rehabilitation
For many years - exercise and fitness have been recommended for low back pain,
however it is only recently that the scientific understanding of muscular
strength, speed and co-ordination in relation to low back pain has been
understood.
Weakness of key muscular spinal stabilisers predisposes to low back pain and
spinal degeneration. There is no doubt that manipulation and manual therapy are
successful in alleviating low back pain, however as Osteopaths, we recognize
that patients who have had one attack of low back pain often relapse within one
year.
Preventative education is required using rehabilitation exercise. The spinal
rehabilitation exercise consists of making the supporting muscles of the spine
both strong and fast so they respond quickly and efficiently to the sudden
movements our spines are subjected to on a daily basis. By using various
training modalities to challenge the posture, nervous system and musculo
skeletal system it can facilitate the body to become well equipt to deal with
daily functional movement once again.
Our specialised rehabilitation sessions are tailor made to an individual’s back,
lower or upper limb condition accounting for any special precautions. Joint
range of motion and muscle testing will be performed, with a full health check
including blood pressure and pulse.
