Osteopathy

The osteopath is a body mechanic whose aim is to gently restore the patients’ frame to what functions best for them. This usually involves carefully working on structures such as muscles, ligaments, bones and nerves to relieve tension and unlock joints.

The osteopath will address areas of pain or disability, locating and treating the causative factors throughout the body. This may include checking adjacent muscles, joints and the entirety of the spine.

Restricted joints can produce stiffness, pain and arthritic changes locally, along with irritating neighbouring structures such as nerves and blood vessels leading to problems in more distant parts of the body. The skilled techniques of osteopathy can allow you a speedy return to normal activity.

Treatment approach to a 27 year-old athlete is likely to be very different to that of an 80 year-old arthritic pensioner or a child. Osteopathic technique very much depends on the presenting complaint and the patient.
